Capt. Terry Haun - Rip Tide Charters & Hunting Service
Haun Ranch Near Victoria Texas

Haun Ranch - June 29, 2002

The recent stormy weather has kept me from fishing offshore. We were running short on meat, so Thursday night I went hog hunting. I waited until the moon came up about 11:30 and walked to the blind in the moonlight, careful to use the light only when necessary. I spooked some deer near the feeder. Those deer snorted loudly, probably scaring all the game away, or so I thought. I climbed into the blind. The light breeze was coming from the feeder, perfect. After about a 15 minute wait a small hog, about 50 pounds, walked up to the barrel feeder and started bumping it around. I wanted a big hog, so I watched as the pig fought the feeder for corn.

About 10 minutes later, big boy appeared out of the brush and ran off the small hog. I could see the hog was bigger than the barrel. I could not see my cross hairs against the black hog, so I lined them up off the hog and then moved them on the hog and shot. I was pretty sure I hit him, but he raced off. I thought I would wait about 20 minutes for my 7 mag to do the job. As I waited another big hog walked up from another direction. I laid him in his tracks. Two boar hogs 210 and 205 pounds. I was back in bed after skinning and dressing the hogs about 4:00. What a hunt!

Let`s go hunting or fishing!
